Vadodara is a city located in the Indian state of Gujarat, in the western end of the country and along the Vishwamitri River. With a population of about 2 million inhabitants is the most populated city in the state and the third largest after Ahmedabad and Surat. The city was known over the years with different names like Baroda, Virakshetra or Chandanavati and was part of various empires as the Gupta or the Maratha and different dynasties like the Chalukya or the Solanki, receiving its current name and status in 1974.
