Karnataka is one of the 28 states of the Republic of India which is situated in the south west of the country. The state was created in 1956 with the name of Mysore and got its current name in 1973, while today is divided into 30 districts and has a population of over 60 million inhabitants with its capital in the city of Bangalore.

Karnataka is one of the main tourism destinations in India, receiving many visitors each year who come to the region attracted by its ancient temples, landscapes of mountains, forests and beaches and modern cities. Among the most outstanding natural areas in the state are hill stations like Kudremukh, Madikeri and Agumbe, ideal destinations for ecotourism, as well as the national parks of Bandipur, Nagarhole and Bannerghatta or the waterfalls of Karnataka and Kudremukh. Unique monuments as the ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire at Hampi and the monuments of Pattadakal, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, along with the cave temples at Badami, the Hoysala temples at Belur and Halebid or the Gol Gumbaz and Ibrahim Rauza are genuine architectural wonders of the state. The cuisine of Karnataka is known for its wide variety influenced by neighboring states, including vegetarian and non-vegetarian traditional dishes such as Bisi bele bath, Ragi rotti, saaru or Sambar Idli-vada.
