Mumbai is an Indian city capital of Maharashtra state which is situated on the west coast of the country. Recognized as the most populous city in India, and the fourth in the world with about 13 million inhabitants, the metropolitan area is home to 21 million people. Originally, the seven islands that constituted its territory were inhabited by fishermen colonies, before becoming a part of the Portuguese and later of the British empire. In the 18th century, through the Hornby Vellard project, its surface was unified into one landmass forming a natural harbor on the Arabian Sea. The city also hosts the country's film industry center known worldwide as Bollywood, which can be visited in the town of Goreagon and represents an important aspect of the country's culture.

Mumbai's gastronomy is characterized by gathering in their restaurants and street stalls all the flavors of India, and represents another attraction for tourism with traditional dishes like the Bombil Batata Bhaji, the Kamag Kakri or the Solachi Kadhi. The city is the financial and commercial center of the country, and its main economic activities are related with industries of port and shipping, engineering, healthcare and information technology.
