Chennai is an Indian city capital of the state of Tamil Nadu which is situated in the southern part of the country, on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. With nearly five million inhabitants is the sixth most populous city in the country, and is recognized as an important cultural, commercial, and educational centre. Its territory was occupied by different empires in the past, and the city itself was born around 1639 under the name of Chennapattanam after the construction of Fort St. George by the British Empire. Later the metropolis would be known throughout the world as an important naval port under the name of Madras.

Chennai is a city that has become a paradise for tourism, especially for its amazing natural attractions. Among them are urban beaches like Marina Beach and Elliot's Beach, the Guindy National Park, the Theosophical Society Gardens, the Pallikaranai marsh, the Nanmangalam Reserve Forest, the Siruthavur and Chembarambakkam lakes, the backwaters of Kelambakkam and Mudaliarkuppam and the birds sanctuaries of Vedanthangal and Nelapattu.
