Ammonia in Nashik

Nashik is an Indian city located in the state of Maharashtra, west of the country on the banks of river Godavari. Its territory is part of the Deccan Plateau and is crossed by the Western Ghats mountain range, and the city is known for its mild climate and the beautiful landscapes that surround it. With a population of over two million inhabitants, is the third largest city in the state after Mumbai and Pune. The city got its name in 1818 when the Maratha Empire took control of it, but that same year would be conquered by the British Empire.

Nashik Tourism gets a big boost to be regarded as a holy city for Hindus, with the presence of a large number of temples and places of pilgrimage. Among the most famous temples are the Ram Kala, Naroshankar, Sundarnarayan, Godavari and Gondeshwar, while major sacred sites are located at Panchavati, Tapovan, Trimbakeshwar and Ramkund. The city also hosts renowned religious festivals like the Kumbh Mela, the Rath Yatra or the Nagbali Narayan. Other valuable sites for tourism in the city are the natural space Someshwar, near the Godavari river with waterfalls for swimming and parks ideal for a picnic, the military center Deolali Camp, the Gufaa Sita Caves or the Mineral Museum.

The gastronomy of Nashik comes from Maharashtrian cuisine, but also has influences from Gujarati, Khandesh and Rajasthani cuisines. Among the traditional dishes are vegetarian options as Thalipeeth, Puneri missal and Dalimbi. The main economic activities of the city are agriculture, with significant production of grapes, tomatoes and onions, and aircraft, information technology, textile and thermal power industries.
