Uttar Pradesh is one of the 28 states of the Republic of India, located in the north of the country on the border with Nepal. Its major cities include the capital Lucknow, the economic and industrial center Kanpur and the legislature center in the city of Allahabad. Despite being only the fifth state in the country in terms of territory, ranks first in terms of population, which more than 200 million inhabitants. Historically this region was home to numerous and powerful empires like Magadha, Sunga, Gupta, Rashtrakuta or Mughal.

Uttar Pradesh is one of the main tourism destinations in India thanks to its cultural attractions, historical monuments and natural paradises. One of the main cultural attractions is the Kumbh Mela Hindu religious festival that takes place every twelve years in the city of Allahabad and can raise up to 80 million people who gather to bathe in the sacred river Saraswati. Agra include in its territory four UNESCO World Heritages Sites, starting with the most visited monument of India, the Taj Mahal, in additon of the Agra Fort, the Tomb of Akbar the Great in Sikandra and Fatehpur Sikr city. Other must-see sites in the state are the city of Varanasi, the second oldest in the world after Jerusalem, Mathura and Vrindavan with its famous temples, and Ayodhya, all places of worship for Hindus, while Buddhists also found in the state places of enormous significance as Sarnath, Kushinagar, Kaushambi and Sankassa. Tourism in the region is also favored by fabulous natural sites like the Dudhwa National Park, the Lakhimpur Kheri Tiger Reserve and the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, among others Wild life Sanctuaries.

Uttar Pradesh's gastronomy mainly presents traits of Awadhi and Mughlai cuisines, with traditional vegetarians and nonvegetarians dishes such as Dum Bhindi, Gobhi Mussallam, Kadi Chawal o Kahi Pakoda Kadhi. The state's main economic activity is agriculture, with significant production of wheat and sugar cane, while also important are industries of engineering and electronic products, steel, leather, textiles, jewelery and automobiles.
